Experience...

Glancing back at time, it has been a year we enrolled in the ECE diploma course and also it is wondering that we have come this far! Imagine that, it is true to say “time flies when we you are having fun”! It is certainly close!

Well, it has been a remarkable experience throughout our first year as we both gained some knowledge in ECE. We actually came to realize the vitality of our role as a teachers or parents in the holistic development of all of the young children. Hence, we would like to share with you some of the experiences we gained which related to the theories that we have learnt.

For instance, we came across a game called “Wii”. This particular game is different than other ordinary video games in the new technology’s word. In this game children must play with moving to perform the actions according to the game, they have fun and beside that they are developing their physical skills. In addition, trough this game they are improving their social skills with using character’s role as a role model. In other situation, we observed a child (2.1/2 years) that explored the objects through her sense of touch. Before we haven’t noticed these kinds of activities or games can help children’s development, especially about new technology; because we thought that these new things have more harms rather than benefits for kids. With getting this kind of experiences, immediately, we recalled the theories that we have learnt during our first year, one of the Piagget’s theory is about children/toddlers who are 0-3 years old that they must use their senses such as touching, smelling, tasting and hearing. As we know this theory’s name is sensory motor stage.

We must know that, studying in this course has a lot of profits; at least all of us will become better parents.

Technology and young children: How 4–7 year olds perceive their own use of computers

http://rapidshare.com/files/405025091/techno_1.pdf

Nowadays most of the children use technology such as computers, outside of the school setting. The amount of using computers in early years depends on the gender and socio-economic back grounds. The majority of children use computers to play the games and boys are more enthusiastic to bring that into play to compare with girls. It is good to mention here, those children who are belonging to lower socio-economic class have positive attitude to use computers than middle classes. Children love to explore and they excited to use computer as much as use at home. With knowing about this enthusiasm of children, parents and school’s staff must pay more attention and provide opportunity with appropriate programs to enhance children’s skills in this field.
In many years ago, when new technologies such as Television, Radio, video, … came to market, people was scared to bring those stuff to home until they got used to it; but nowadays children accept every new technology quickly. So, we also must become up grade and arrange chances for our kids.
Using computers must be started from 4 years old. They become mature enough to handle and understand the programs. We must lead them to different suitable agenda to learn some more occasions besides playing games. In addition, to compare than before, these days, boys and girls are using computers as a same time and no differences between their interests. Both genders love to have own home computer and try those class learning at home.

Technology and Parenting

When it comes to involve parenting, the vast advancement in the recent technology, we all start to think about what is going to happen with our young ones being exposed as early as three years of age to high-tech gadgets such as computers, cell phones, video games and many more. Though, to some parents it is something common and it is in the trend these days. However, others still have the perception that children as young as three should not be wasting away their golden years on mere gadgets when they could have magical and hands-on experiences through their everyday life encounters. Hence, due to this scenario and many other situations, involving parents that it find difficult to keep up to such “trends” we can see nowadays, its vital that we (be it parents or teachers), should set limits and make sure that our young ones actually “grow” up in an environment rich with knowledge which we would spare all our time imparting just to see them blossom in future! And thus we should make it a must that we don’t “stray” away from our children’s lives and actually be a part of it; and as well as we make sure that our children gets the best from us. Nonetheless, we are not saying that the technology is bad; definitely is not! All we’re saying that technology should be explored with limits (especially involving young children) and also we would provide the concrete and wholesome experiences for children to acquire knowledge and expand their vocabulary. To ensure their holistically needs are be met in their early foundation years and mould well enough to equip them for their lifetime!
Below we’ve attached an article of a parent’s view on technology. We hope you’ll enjoy it and please do leave your comments as well! Have a great day ahead!! Bye!
